U.S. military attacks three Iranian tankers in response to IRGC missile strike
The U.S. armed forces carried out strikes on three Iranian oil tankers after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempted to strike American ships in the region. This was stated in an official statement by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
The incident occurred on September 5 after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at two U.S. Navy ships patrolling local waters. No one was injured as a result of the hostile actions, and the American aircraft carrier and destroyer were not damaged. In response, American forces disabled the tanker Downy near Kharg Island and the tanker Stark 1 near the city of Jask. In addition, the unloaded tanker Kylo was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman, having been struck several times after the crew was evacuated.
