Peace Council believes Gaza's reconstruction will not begin soon

Programs for the recovery and reconstruction of the Palestinian Gaza Strip will not be possible to implement in the near future.

This was stated by the High Representative of the Peace Council for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov.

"The people of Gaza are living in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions," Mladenov pointed out, as quoted by the Al Hadath television channel. "We are still far from the start of the process of rebuilding the Palestinian enclave," he added.

Mladenov emphasized that "it is necessary to move faster toward the start of Gaza's reconstruction" and that the Peace Council "has commitments from a number of countries on this issue."

Earlier, the High Representative called for the earliest possible withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave and for the delivery of construction materials needed to rebuild infrastructure and residential buildings in the Palestinian enclave, noting that "the funds collected for these purposes are insufficient." On August 28, Mladenov reported that the Peace Council "had received pledges totaling $7 billion for Gaza's reconstruction."

In October 2025, Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The initiative consisted of three stages: the first included the cessation of hostilities, the release of detainees, and a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops. Subsequent phases envisaged the final end of the conflict and the reconstruction of the enclave, but the parties have so far been unable to move on to the second stage of the agreement.
