Russian Foreign Ministry withdraws consent for the operation of Germany's consulate general in St. Petersburg

Russia is withdrawing its consent for the operation of Germany's consulate general in St. Petersburg, which must cease its work no later than September 18, the Foreign Ministry reports. All employees of Germany's consulate general in St. Petersburg must leave Russia no later than September 18, the diplomatic agency stated.

The German Goethe cultural centers in Russia must also cease their activities. Employees of the German Goethe centers have been instructed to leave Russia no later than September 13, 2026.

Responsibility for the consequences of the new round of escalation in relations between Russia and Germany lies entirely with Berlin, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
