Russian drone strikes TV channel building in Kyiv

One of the drones with which Russian forces attacked Kyiv on September 8 damaged the building of the TV channel "We Are Ukraine."

The strike, the TV channel reported, hit the newsroom and staff offices. There are casualties. The channel's building was attacked at the moment when the telethon "United News" — which Ukrainian media have been broadcasting since the start of the full-scale war — was on the air.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that, according to his information, five people were injured as a result of the drone strike on the TV channel's building. "Shaheds against the media is a new page in Russian degradation, and there certainly must be a reaction from Europe and the world to this," Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.

The building of the "We Are Ukraine" TV channel had already been damaged previously during Russian strikes on Kyiv. On August 20, the TV channel reported that the newsroom had also been damaged during a nighttime attack on Kyiv. No one was hurt at that time.

The "United News" telethon was launched on February 24, 2022 — the day Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine began. As of August 2026, several Ukrainian TV channels take part in the round-the-clock marathon, including "We Are Ukraine." They take turns creating content for "United News."
