Moldova denounces CIS agreement on combating human trafficking
The government of Moldova has denounced the Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Human Organs and Tissues, signed within the framework of the CIS on November 25, 2005.
The decision was made at a government meeting.
As Interior Minister Daniela Misail-Nikitin stated, this decision is connected with Moldova's European course.
"At present, countering human trafficking relies on more up-to-date international instruments, including the Council of Europe Convention and mechanisms of cooperation with European partners and Interpol. Accordingly, we are abandoning an agreement that no longer reflects current realities and mechanisms," the minister said.
The decision will take effect after its official publication.
Earlier, Moldova withdrew from the basic CIS treaties and began denouncing other agreements. Formally, the republic's withdrawal from the Commonwealth will take place in April 2027. At the same time, Moldova intends to maintain its participation in 17 agreements.
