More than 80 people missing in the Philippines after ferry fire
84 people are listed as missing after a fire aboard the passenger ferry MV June Aster off the coast of the Philippines.
This was stated by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokeswoman Noemi Cayabyab.
"According to the latest data, five people died as a result of the incident, 43 passengers survived, and 84 are listed as missing," she said.
The PCG spokeswoman noted that rescuers are still unable to get inside the ferry because of the continuing heavy smoke. Philippine authorities have expanded the search area for the missing.
The Philippine Coast Guard earlier reported a fire on a passenger ferry that occurred off the coast of the Philippine province of Palawan on September 9. As the Russian Embassy in Manila told TASS, the diplomatic mission has not received data from local authorities about possible Russian victims as a result of this incident.
