Vance declares U.S. has achieved goals in Iran

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated in an interview with Fox News that Washington has achieved its goals in Iran.

“I think we have achieved the set goals,” Vance said (quoted by Bloomberg), adding that now it is possible to “start winding down this process.”
According to him, the United States has made “significant progress” in negotiations with Iran. When asked if new talks are planned, the Vice President responded that “the ball is in Iran’s court.”

He explained that he left the negotiations in Pakistan last weekend because the Iranians were unable to finalize a deal and had to return to Tehran to seek approval for the conditions put forward by the U.S.
“The main question for the future is whether the Iranians will show enough flexibility, whether they will accept the critically important conditions necessary for the deal to be implemented,” Vance noted.

These include the removal of enriched uranium from Iran and firm commitments from Tehran that it will not develop nuclear weapons, he clarified.

“Whether we will have further negotiations, whether we will ultimately reach an agreement, I really think the ball is in Iran’s court because we have offered a lot,” Vance said. “We have very clearly outlined our ‘red lines,’” he added.

U.S. President Donald Trump, following the negotiations in Pakistan, stated that the White House was contacted by “the right people” from Iran who expressed readiness to cooperate. According to him, the stumbling block in the negotiations “is the nuclear issue.” “We agreed on a lot, but they didn’t agree on this, though I think they will. I’m almost certain of it,” Trump said.
