Vice-speaker of Armenian parliament accuses Samvel Karapetyan of attempting to bribe voters

Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan has accused the party of Russian oligarch Samvel Karapetyan of attempting to bribe voters ahead of parliamentary elections, according to Armenian media.

“The associates of the ‘Kaluga oligarch’ have once again been caught distributing electoral bribes. This is no longer surprising because we are dealing with a force that has been clearly and deliberately sent to Armenia to steal our elections,” Rubinyan said in a video message posted on his Facebook page.

“They seem to think they can buy the people of Armenia. They’ve probably confused the people of Armenia with the population of Nizhny Tagil. But don’t worry, we will explain to them what’s what,” he added.

“Dear compatriots, if you are in any way connected to the team of the Kaluga oligarch and involved with them, know this: if you distribute electoral bribes or violate the ban on charity, you will be detained—regardless of your gender, age, or family status. You will be detained,” Rubinyan stated.

It was previously reported that members of the “Strong Armenia” party, Goar Gumashyan and Verzhine Stepanyan, were detained on charges of violating the ban on charity, which is in effect during the period following the presidential decree appointing parliamentary elections.
