Trump claims his attack on Iran saved the Middle East

American President Donald Trump claims that the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran saved the Persian Gulf countries from a nuclear strike by Tehran and subsequent takeover.

"They (Iran - ed. TASS) would have had nuclear weapons in a month, maybe in two weeks, and they would have used them against Israel and in the Middle East. They would have used them against us too. And not just against Israel, by the way, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE - all these countries would have been shocked when they were struck. These countries did not expect to be targeted, but they [Iran] had aimed at these countries. They wanted to take over the entire Middle East, and we stopped them," the American leader said in an interview with Fox News.

Trump accused his predecessor Barack Obama of making the "worst deal in history" with Tehran, allegedly paving a short path for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

The U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran on February 28. On April 7, the American president announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with the Islamic Republic. On April 11, Iran and the U.S. held several rounds of talks in Islamabad. The Iranian delegation was led by Ghalibaf, and the American delegation by Vance. As later reported in Tehran and Washington, the parties failed to reach an agreement on the issue of long-term conflict resolution due to a number of disagreements. Whether a new round of consultations will take place is not yet certain, although the American leader signaled on April 14 that such contacts could resume in Islamabad in the coming days.
