According to regional officials, mediators' efforts to extend the truce between the U.S. and Iran have been successful, and it is expected that the opposing sides will soon return to the negotiating table for another round.

AP reports.

According to officials, mediators intend to extend the ceasefire regime, which expires on April 22, for at least another two weeks to give diplomacy another chance. They stated that both sides have "in principle agreed" to extend the ceasefire regime.

One of the officials involved in the mediation efforts said that mediators are working on a compromise regarding three main contentious issues, including the nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz, and military compensations.

Both officials agreed to anonymity to discuss the matter.
