SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf held a number of meetings during his visit to Italy and took part in an official reception organized in Rome on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day.

As AZERTAJ was informed at SOCAR, he met with Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto-Fratin and Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso.

The meetings noted with satisfaction the sustainable development of relations between Azerbaijan and Italy based on successful economic cooperation, including in the energy sector. In this regard, the importance of SOCAR's acquisition of shares in Italiana Petroli from API Holding was emphasized in terms of expanding cooperation between our countries in the energy sphere.

During the talks, opinions were exchanged on issues of energy security, SOCAR's activities in Italy and other topics of mutual interest.

During the visit, the SOCAR president took part in an official reception organized by the Azerbaijani embassy in Italy on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day. The official presentation of SOCAR Italy took place as part of the event.

Speaking at the event, the SOCAR president spoke about the path of development of independent Azerbaijan, the foundation of which was laid by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and the historic successes achieved under the wise leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Noting that relations between Azerbaijan and Italy have developed over the past years on the basis of mutual trust and close cooperation, R. Najaf emphasized that ties are dynamically expanding today and mutually beneficial partnership is successfully deepening not only in other areas but also in the energy sector. In his opinion, the official start of SOCAR Italy's activities, as well as SOCAR's acquisition of shares in Italiana Petroli, are indicators of successful cooperation between our countries.

Speeches were also heard at the event by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Rome Rashad Aslanov, Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli and Vice President of the Senate of this country, Senator Licia Ronzulli.
