In France, doctors demand tougher measures against illegal cosmetic injections

About 5,000 private practitioners and specialists in the field of aesthetic medicine in France have appealed to Health Minister Stéphanie Rist with a demand to toughen the fight against illegal cosmetic injections.

As 1news.az reports, the doctors expressed concern that over the past four months two young women have died as a result of such procedures.

In the appeal, published in the newspaper Le Parisien, the authors addressed a question to the minister: "How many more people must die, Madam Minister?" — and sharply criticized the widespread practice of aesthetic procedures being performed by people without medical training.

The initiative was also supported by the Union of Private Practitioners of France and the Association for Good Practice in Aesthetic Medicine.

The appeal notes that about 40% of people in France who get aesthetic injections already turn to individuals without medical training. According to the doctors, such interventions are carried out without medical knowledge or diagnostics, which creates serious health risks.

They are demanding that the government toughen punishment for people engaged in illegal activity, as well as strengthen control over injectable products sold outside official sales channels, in particular through social networks.

The French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) also regularly reminds the public that performing aesthetic injections by unauthorized persons is illegal and poses a serious threat to health.

According to the agency, such procedures can lead to severe complications, including infections, tissue necrosis and even death. The agency urges citizens to turn exclusively to licensed health care specialists for such interventions.
