Congressional candidate of Ukrainian origin arrested in Hawaii after beach altercation - VIDEO
Kirill Basin, a native of Ukraine who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat, was detained for a knife fight in Hawaii, the local publication Honolulu Civil Beat reports.
According to its information, the incident occurred on Saturday on the island of Maui, when a 61-year-old man on the beach asked 40-year-old Basin to turn down the volume of his music. In response, the congressional candidate began threatening to shoot the wife of the man who had made the remark. A passerby intervened in the conflict, after which the altercation escalated into a scuffle, during which Basin pulled out a knife, which he subsequently tried to get rid of. In turn, the newspaper The New York Post reports that the politician tried to hit one of the participants in the altercation with a chair, but the person he attacked managed to deliver a preemptive blow and knock Basin off his feet.
The congressional candidate was charged with two counts of threatening violence with intent to intimidate, and the court set bail at $1 million.
As the publication notes, this is not the first instance of such behavior by Basin; in May of this year he brandished a weapon at the county administration building, and he has also been arrested for property damage and assaults.
