Afghanistan asks Azerbaijan to help with participation in climate summit COP31
Acting Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency of Afghanistan Mawlawi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis met with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kabul Ilham Mamedov.
The main topics of the negotiations were issues of ecology, regional cooperation and Afghanistan’s integration into international climate initiatives.
During the meeting Khalis appealed to the Azerbaijani side with a request to facilitate Afghanistan’s official participation in the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), which will be held in Turkey.
“Aghanistan needs opportunities to participate in international forums on climate and environmental protection so that the country can fully participate in the discussion of global environmental problems,” the department’s statement is quoted by the official publication The Kabul Times.
The head of the environmental agency emphasized the critical importance of uniting efforts in the region to effectively solve environmental crises, and also proposed to intensify the exchange of technical and professional experience between Kabul and Baku.
In turn, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan described the relations between the two states as friendly and stable. Ilham Mamedov assured the Afghan side that he would do everything possible to facilitate and work out the requests voiced at the meeting.
