Volodymyr Zelensky: The first use of a Ukrainian ballistic missile could take place in the fall
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the development of the country's own ballistic missile faces international restrictions and strong competition on the global market.
According to the head of state, in addition to logistical and technological difficulties, the project is being hindered by the economic interests of other countries and companies that are not interested in the emergence of a new player in the field of missile technologies and air defense.
«Well, believe me, there are many who do not want Ukraine to have its own ballistic capability. Undoubtedly, Russia is number one. But in the world there are also not very many people and companies that want such a competitor. Do you understand what ballistics in Ukraine means? What does it mean to have your own ballistic missile or your own anti-ballistic one? On the European continent there is still no air defense system of its own that shoots down ballistic missiles. And then Ukraine appears. Undoubtedly, it is what it is. That's life. And, undoubtedly, well, it is what it is. That's life. It does not mean that our partners are against it, they support us. But we understand that besides politics, besides values, there is also money, there is business», - Zelensky stated.
The president of Ukraine also reported that the first combat use of a Ukrainian ballistic missile could take place in the fall, ahead of the system reaching the mass production stage. Scaling up weapons output will directly depend on the stability of component supplies, financing, and the conclusion of contracts with partners.
