Twenty-four people injured in train collision in Croatia

Twenty-four people were injured in a collision between a freight train and a passenger train in Croatia.

As Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) reports, the incident occurred in the municipality of Sveti Ivan Žabno, about 65 km from Zagreb. Emergency services are working at the scene.

According to the Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine, all of the injured received initial medical care. Twelve people are continuing treatment in hospitals, three of them in serious condition.

Croatia's Minister of Transport and Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Butković stated that the accident occurred on a recently repaired section of the railway line, and that the passenger electric train was new. In this regard, he ruled out technical malfunctions as the cause of the disaster, pointing to a possible human factor. Traffic on the section will be restored after the investigation is completed.
