Thousands of fans surrounded the cathedral in Funchal, mistakenly believing that Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were holding their wedding there.

As the Metro outlet reports, an unusual incident occurred on August 8 near the Funchal Cathedral in the capital of the island of Madeira. A crowd of people filled the city center, wanting to see the wedding of the famous soccer player, which had earlier been reported on social media.

However, it turned out that the cathedral was hosting the wedding ceremony of an ordinary couple — Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, who live in France and had come to their homeland. Parish priest Marcos Goncalves confirmed that the newlyweds have no relation to Ronaldo. Another group of fans gathered near the Savoy Palace hotel, where the wedding banquet was supposedly to take place. The athlete's sister, Elma Aveiro, criticized the rumors in the media and on social networks, calling them a fabrication.
