Former IRGC commander-in-chief becomes secretary of the Supreme National Security Council

Former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and adviser to Iran's supreme leader Mohsen Rezaei has been appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

This was reported by the head of the public relations department of the Iranian president's administration, Mohammad Mehdi Tabatabai, Iranian media report.

According to him, in connection with the resignation of the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, and his appointment to a new position, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, by his order, appointed Mohsen Rezaei secretary of the council.

In this post, Rezaei replaced Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who was appointed secretary of the council on March 27 after the death of his predecessor Ali Larijani.

According to a statement from the office of Iran's supreme leader, Zolghadr has been appointed adviser to Mojtaba Khamenei on political issues.
