Iran approves bill banning passage of U.S. and Israeli vessels through the Strait of Hormuz

The National Security Commission of Iran's parliament has approved a master plan of strategic measures to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.

It is reported that the general provisions of the bill on strategic measures to ensure the security and development of the Strait of Hormuz were approved unanimously by the commission.

Earlier, a member of the presiding board of Iran's parliament, Alireza Salemi, said that the plan provides for a "ban on the passage of vessels of the United States, Israel and other hostile countries through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as all vessels linked to Israel." The ban also extends to military and civilian vessels and cargo involved in actions against Iran.

In addition, countries and individuals that have caused damage to Iran will be denied permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf until compensation is paid.

The plan also stipulates heavy fines for violators, including a fine of up to 20% of the value of the cargo.

Under the legislative act, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in cooperation with the armed forces, will be required to assume such duties as organizing shipping, monitoring vessel traffic, as well as ensuring the security and protection of the environment of the Persian Gulf.
