The Pentagon pressured military companies over ammunition shortages

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that the department has demanded that military companies speed up the production and delivery of weapons.

Earlier, the Washington Post, citing an internal document, reported that the Pentagon had demanded that military companies accelerate the production and delivery of weapons and ammunition to American forces.

According to the newspaper, Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg gave military contractors 21 days to submit plans for a substantial increase in the pace of weapons deliveries.

"Working directly with industry leaders to accelerate production is nothing new... From day one of Secretary (Pete - ed.) Hegseth's tenure, this department has been focused on implementing changes in the speed, capability, and lethality of America's defense industrial base and the 'Arsenal of Freedom,'" Parnell told USA Today.

According to Parnell, Feinberg is leading the effort to fix an "ineffective, outdated and extremely complex procurement system" so that the United States can produce weapons "at the pace the threat demands."

Earlier, NBC television, citing sources, reported that the Pentagon's leadership had convened an urgent meeting on the problem of ammunition shortages and deliveries after U.S. President Donald Trump personally called with criticism to Stephen Feinberg, the deputy head of the department responsible for supplies.
