Trump says the Strait of Hormuz has been completely cleared of mines

U.S. President Donald Trump claims that the Strait of Hormuz has been completely cleared of mines.

He made the statement while answering reporters' questions at the White House.

According to the American leader, the Strait of Hormuz is open to the passage of all vessels, except for those heading to Iranian ports. "For everyone else it is open. It's somewhat complicated, because they keep dropping mines. We find these mines. You know, we cleared the entire strait of mines. Maybe you haven't heard, but we control the strait 100%," Trump said.

The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached with regard to the Strait of Hormuz.

On August 2, Trump reported that he had agreed to call off a planned powerful strike on Iran for the sake of reaching a deal with Tehran. According to him, Iran and the countries of the Middle East asked Washington to refrain from the attack, since the parties had agreed on the outlines of a future agreement.

On August 5, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical coordinates of a new route through the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, he emphasized that the future treaty between Tehran and Muscat does not imply the immediate opening of the strait, as this issue depends on the actions of the United States.
