Serbia announces possible cancellation of visa-free regime with Russia following Montenegro

Serbia may cancel its visa-free regime with Russia following Montenegro.

Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starovic made the statement on Tuesday, August 11.

"The country intends to fulfill the conditions for joining the Schengen zone by 2027," he said on the air of Radio Belgrade.

Montenegro officially introduced visas for Russians and Belarusians starting November 1, 2026. The corresponding document appeared on the country's official government website on Monday, July 27. The resolution adopted by the government of Montenegro on July 23, 2026, sets out changes to the visa regime. Under the new rules, from November 1, 2026, citizens of a number of countries whose visa regime previously did not coincide with the visa regime of the European Union will require a visa to enter the country. Russia is among the states on this list.
