Trump: I am Iran's banker
U.S. President Donald Trump considers the steps Washington is taking to exert economic pressure on Iran to be effective and is convinced that the Islamic republic's economy is headed for collapse.
"Just look at how badly they're doing, they're dealing with 300% inflation, their currency is worth practically nothing. They're not paying their soldiers. Their soldiers are leaving," the president asserted in an interview with the radio station Real America's Voice.
"So we're going to keep doing the same thing, because they are not viable," the American leader added. "Economically, they are in complete disarray. They can't borrow money. We control the money they had, a large sum. They had a lot, but we control it completely. I'm their banker."
At the same time, Trump once again allowed for the possibility that the United States could "strike very, very hard" at Iran.
The United States and Israel began the war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached with regard to the Strait of Hormuz.
