Authorities in the states of Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma plan to carry out death sentences against three inmates on August 13.

This was reported by the Associated Press.

According to the agency, this will be the first time in nearly 16 years that three executions have been scheduled in the United States on a single day. All of them are to be carried out by lethal injection.

In Tennessee, Anthony Darrell Hines, convicted of killing a maid in 1985, is scheduled to be executed. In Alabama, the death sentence is to be carried out against Jeremy Williams, convicted of the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl, and in Oklahoma against Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, found guilty of murdering his girlfriend in 2003.

As AP notes, the carrying out of three executions on the same day reflects the rise in the number of death sentences carried out in the United States, driven by several states that continue to actively apply capital punishment. In 2025, 47 death sentences were carried out in the country — the highest figure since 2009.
