The Ankara prosecutor's office has issued warrants for the detention of businessman and leader of the religious sect "Suleymancilar" Alihan Kurish and 48 other people as part of an investigation into his criminal activity, in particular money laundering.

This was reported by the newspaper Cumhuriyet.

According to its information, the operation to detain those involved in the case is being carried out in 17 provinces of the country, including Ankara and Antalya, and 30 people have been detained.

Searches were conducted at 123 addresses — at the places of residence of the suspects and at the registration addresses of 33 companies belonging to the community, in which large money transfers of unknown origin were discovered. In addition, it was established that about 100 billion Turkish lira had been moved abroad. External administrators have been appointed at the companies.

"Suleymancilar" is an influential religious community in Turkey. Founded in the middle of the 20th century, it possesses significant financial resources in the country and abroad, and runs Quran study courses.
