Israeli security services thwarted an assassination attempt on Defense Minister Israel Katz.
The Shin Bet general security service received information that a terrorist cell from Jenin was preparing an attack on Israel's defense minister.
The attack was planned during the opening ceremony of the settlement of Ganim, which was also attended by Minister Shlomo Karhi, Knesset member Yuli Edelstein, and Samaria Governor Yossi Dagan.
As the news outlet Channel 14 reported, after receiving the intelligence, security forces carried out an emergency redeployment of troops.
On the night of August 13, 2026, in just a few hours, fighters of the Yamam counterterrorism unit, with the support of the Menashe Brigade, conducted simultaneous raids on three homes in Jenin.
The suspects were detained without resistance before they could arm themselves and were handed over for interrogation. Authorities are checking information that the perpetrators also planned to carry out an attack on new settlements.
