Court returns lawsuit against Pashinyan

A court in Armenia has returned to the former head of the Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters, Liparit Drmeyan, his lawsuit for the protection of honor and dignity against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The reason for the legal proceedings was Pashinyan's statement that Samvel Karapetyan's company Electric Networks of Armenia had a "mole" in the government, implying Drmeyan. In response, the former official filed a lawsuit demanding a public retraction of these claims as defamatory.

However, Judge Alfred Vardanyan returned the application because of a number of significant deficiencies. The document lacked the plaintiff's patronymic and registration address, and a copy of the lawsuit was sent to Pashinyan at his registered address rather than his actual place of residence. In addition, the court found the plaintiff's demands to be unclear: Drmeyan requested the retraction of information on several points, but did not formulate the specific phrases to be retracted, with the court emphasizing that it is not authorized to do this for him.
