South Korean president calls on North Korea for peaceful coexistence

President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung has called for peaceful coexistence with North Korea.

As 1news.az reports, the South Korean leader made the statement on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese rule.

Lee Jae-myung recalled that back in 2025 he had declared his readiness to respect the system existing in North Korea and not to seek unification of the peninsula through absorption. According to him, Seoul has no hostile intentions toward Pyongyang.

"We must strive for peaceful coexistence based on the principles of inclusiveness and mutual respect," the president of the Republic of Korea said.

He also called on North and South Korea to sit down at the negotiating table. In his words, dialogue is "not a concession, but the beginning of peaceful coexistence."
