Hundreds of migrants stage protest in Ceuta demanding asylum

Hundreds of migrants in the autonomous city of Ceuta have staged a protest demanding that they be granted asylum.

This was reported by the Reuters agency.

According to its information, the migrants, who set up an makeshift camp on the beach, waved Spanish flags and banners calling for asylum to be granted to them in the country.

At the end of July, tens of thousands of illegal migrants managed to reach Ceuta by swimming, as well as on foot, going around the breakwater that separates the city from Morocco. Against the backdrop of the crisis, Madrid decided to deploy the military to help ensure security in the locality. It is assumed that the overwhelming majority of the illegal migrants have already returned to Morocco, however, according to Spanish authorities, about 5,000 migrants may still remain in the city.
