Alen Simonyan holds first meeting as Security Council secretary: TRIPP discussed

Armenia's new Security Council Secretary Alen Simonyan held his first meeting in this post with U.S. House of Representatives member Abraham Hamadeh, who is currently in Yerevan.

According to the press service of the Armenian Security Council, the parties discussed the implementation of the TRIPP project, regional processes, and issues of mutual interest.

Hamadeh arrived in Armenia on a visit on August 18, 2026. He has already met with Armenian Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

The TRIPP project (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) provides for the creation of a strategic transit corridor through the territory of Armenia. Under the project, Armenia will grant the United States exclusive long-term rights for up to 99 years to develop the route. It provides for the creation of a company with a controlling stake held by the United States, while Armenia will have control mechanisms on matters of principle. At the first stage, the United States is offered a 74% stake and Armenia 26%, with the possibility of increasing Armenia's stake to 49% when the agreement is extended.

On May 26, during a short visit by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Yerevan, Armenia and the United States initialed the above-mentioned framework agreement, and in early June they signed it.
