The Russian army shelled Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight into Thursday, August 20.

According to the latest data, at least 12 people were killed in the attack, said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko. Earlier, he also indicated that 33 people had been injured.

The State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine reported that rescuers are continuing to deal with the aftermath of the attack in the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the shelling damaged residential buildings, a medical and an educational institution, and large warehouse areas are on fire.

Klitschko wrote on Telegram that in the Solomianskyi district, debris fell near a five-story building. Windows in the building were blown out. A fire broke out. According to the mayor, a nine-story residential building was also hit, and its upper floors were destroyed.

At another address, people were trapped in a shelter. In the same district, the building of a children's hospital was damaged, and cars caught fire on the grounds of the medical facility. In the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, non-residential premises caught fire.
