Five bears killed in a day in Altai after tourist's death

Over the past 24 hours, hunters have shot five bears in the Turochaksky district of the Altai Republic, where a predator earlier killed a woman on the grounds of a tourist center.

This was reported by the press service of the regional government.

A curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. is in effect in the district. At night, mobile patrol groups made up of police officers and hunters are on duty. «Bears have begun appearing in villages, so regulating their numbers is a necessary measure for the safety of residents,» the government maintains.

The bear attack took place on the night of August 19 in the village of Artybash. It dragged a young woman into a wooded area, where it mauled her to death.
