"She worked for the Emergencies Ministry." A bear dragged a tourist out of her tent at night — she died
In the Republic of Altai, a bear attacked tourists who were in a tent on the grounds of a tourist camp at night.
The predator climbed inside, dragged out a 29-year-old woman and hauled her into the forest. The tourist died, TASS reports.
The tragedy occurred on the night of August 19 near the village of Artybash in the Turochak district. The woman had come to Altai from Novosibirsk together with her fiancé. The man survived the attack, but he was hospitalized after the incident.
People tried to find the woman by following the screams. By the time they reached the site, the bear had already disappeared. In the morning the tourist's body was found with numerous injuries.
It later became known that the deceased worked as an inspector of state fire supervision in the regional department of the Emergencies Ministry. She was in Altai on vacation.
The Russian Investigative Committee is establishing the circumstances of what happened, and the prosecutor's office has also launched an inquiry.
After the attack, a state of heightened alert was introduced in the Turochak district. From 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m., the movement of residents and tourists was restricted. The area is patrolled around the clock by police officers and hunters, and drones are being used to search for the bear.
