Trump says talks with Iran are complicated by the change of leadership in Tehran

U.S. President Donald Trump claims that reaching a deal with Tehran is complicated by the deaths of members of the Iranian leadership.

Mojtaba Khamenei replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, as Iran's supreme leader after the latter was killed on the very first day of the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which began on February 28.

"Part of the problem is that many leaders have been killed. Making a deal is not easy," Trump said in an interview with Michael Cohen on the radio station 77 WABC.

Trump claims that members of his administration do not know whom to negotiate with.

On July 8, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire reached with Iran on the night of June 18 was no longer in effect. Since July 8, the U.S. military has carried out several series of attacks on Iran.

U.S. Central Command claimed that this was allegedly done in response to Iran's actions against commercial vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran responded with strikes on U.S. bases in a number of Middle Eastern countries, closed the Strait of Hormuz, and also accused Washington of violating the memorandum on the cessation of hostilities.
