IDF announces elimination of Hamas platoon commander

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated in the area of Nuseirat in the Gaza Strip a platoon commander of the military wing of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, who took part in the seizure and holding of Israeli hostages.

"The Israel Defense Forces struck in the area of Nuseirat and eliminated a platoon commander in the military wing of Hamas, Sabahi Sami Mahmoud Shahat, who participated in holding numerous hostages in Hamas captivity," a statement from the army press service said.

According to the press service, this radical had recently "attempted to carry out attacks against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians," as a result of which he "was eliminated to remove the threat."
