China updates its National Defense Mobilization Law for the first time in 16 years

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has approved an updated National Defense Mobilization Law, which will take effect on October 1.

The document clarifies the powers of military and civilian bodies, the rules for mobilizing resources and personnel, as well as coordination with the emergency response system. The main goal of the updates is to ensure the state's rapid transition from peacetime to wartime and to convert economic and social potential into defense capabilities.

In addition, the law takes into account changes in the nature of modern conflicts and provides for the use of advanced technologies. This is the first update of this piece of legislation since its adoption in 2010.
