Azerbaijani man on international wanted list detained in Ukraine and will be extradited
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine with a request for the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Enver Tagiyev, who was on the international wanted list.
As a result of the submission of the necessary documents in accordance with international procedures and the negotiations held, an agreement was reached on his extradition to Azerbaijan, 1news.az reports, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In particular, within the framework of a criminal case investigated by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, reasonable suspicions were established that E. Tagiyev had committed a smuggling offense, and also stored for the purpose of sale, without appropriate marking, goods subject to marking with excise stamps.
A corresponding decision was made to charge E. Tagiyev as an accused. Due to the fact that he had absconded from the investigation, an international search was announced through the National Central Bureau of Interpol.
As a result of the measures taken, his whereabouts on the territory of Ukraine were established, after which he was detained. Appropriate measures are currently being taken to bring Enver Tagiyev to Azerbaijan.
"The Prosecutor General's Office will continue cooperation with the competent authorities of foreign states, including Interpol, in order to establish the whereabouts of wanted persons and return them to Azerbaijan," the Prosecutor General's Office noted.
