France blocks the appointment of a new Russian consul general in Marseille
French authorities have already denied visas to two candidates for the post of the new consul general of the Russian Federation in Marseille, Russia's Consul General in the southern French city, Stanislav Oransky, told RIA Novosti.
"The French have already refused two candidates. A third candidate was submitted to them for consideration a couple of weeks ago. We sent a request for an exequatur, but no reply has come yet," the diplomat said.
Earlier, Oransky told RIA Novosti that the number of diplomatic staff at the Russian Consulate General in Marseille had been cut by two thirds since 2022. At the same time, for three years France has not been issuing a visa to a Russian diplomat who is due to begin work at the Consulate General in Marseille, he said.
