First woman general appointed in Turkey's Air Force
Following the meeting of Turkey's Supreme Military Council (YAŞ), Colonel Özlem Karapınar was promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
As 1news.az reports, citing Turkish media, Özlem Karapınar thus made history as the first woman general of the Turkish Air Force, as well as the first woman officer to receive a general's rank in the Turkish Armed Forces.
It is noted that Özlem İyidilli Karapınar initially enrolled in the medical faculty of Ege University, but later accepted an invitation from the Air Force Academy and chose a military career. Having served for many years in various positions in military units and headquarters of the Turkish Air Force, Karapınar was awarded the rank of brigadier general by a decision of YAŞ.
According to the information, Özlem Karapınar is the daughter of teacher Mehmet Emin İyidilli, is married and is raising a child.
Let us note that her promotion to the rank of general is regarded as a historic event from the standpoint of the representation of women in the highest leadership positions in the Turkish Armed Forces.
