Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan complete laying of fiber-optic cable on Caspian seabed

Works on laying the fiber-optic cable from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, the start of which was announced five days ago, have been completed.

This was reported by the press service of the Kazakh government.

As noted in the message, "the underwater cable has successfully reached the coast of Kazakhstan, which marked the completion of the most difficult part of the project being implemented by the companies Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom International."

Head of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development - Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Zhasslan Madiev noted that "the new route will strengthen Kazakhstan's digital connectivity with global data transmission networks and create the basis for further development of artificial intelligence, cloud technologies and modern data processing centers." "By consistently developing digital infrastructure, Kazakhstan is strengthening its position as a strategic digital bridge between Europe and Asia," the message quotes Madiev as saying.

Further work will be carried out to connect the cable to the coastal infrastructure; in the fall, the construction of coastal facilities is expected to be completed and testing of the system to begin. The joint company of telecom operators of the two countries - CaspiLink B.V. - will be responsible for the operation of the infrastructure.

The start of the line laying was reported by the ministry on July 31, when the vessel left the port of Baku and began construction of the line.
