Russia and Armenia discuss opening new diplomatic missions
Moscow and Yerevan are discussing the opening of a Russian consulate general in Kapan and an Armenian consular office in Vladikavkaz, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's representative office in Vladikavkaz, Bagir Mamiev, told RIA Novosti.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said back in 2023 that Armenia planned to open a consular office in North Ossetia.
"As of today, this issue (the opening of an Armenian consular office in Vladikavkaz - ed.), as well as the issue of opening a Russian Consulate General in Kapan (Armenia), has not been removed from the bilateral agenda, but it is premature to speak of any specific timeframes," Mamiev said.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Foreign Ministry's representative office in Vladikavkaz has established stable working contact with the Armenian Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don, including on issues concerning Armenian carriers at the "Verkhny Lars" checkpoint, which remains the only overland route linking Russia with Georgia and further on with Armenia.
