Nikol Pashinyan points to problems in the EAEU

One of the fundamental principles of the Eurasian Economic Union is ensuring the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor; unfortunately, in practice these principles are not being implemented in full.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kyrgyzstan on August 7.

Certain restrictions and administrative measures continue to hinder the full functioning of the common market, reducing the predictability of business conditions and the effectiveness of integration processes, he said.

"Armenia consistently ensures the most favorable, equal, and non-discriminatory conditions for the activities of economic entities from all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

We consistently proceed from the premise that a similar approach should be applied throughout the entire territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. That is precisely why we consider it fundamentally important that any measures capable of affecting the access of goods and services of member states to the common market be adopted exclusively in accordance with EAEU law, on the basis of agreed procedures, and within the framework of constructive interaction between the competent authorities.

Ignoring such issues is capable not only of slowing the further development of the Eurasian Economic Union, but also of negatively affecting the attitude toward it on the part of the citizens and the business community of our countries.

Ultimately, such problems cease to be the problems of an individual member state; they become a common problem of the entire union.

That is precisely why we need to remove emerging barriers in a timely manner, prevent the degradation of trade and economic relations within the EAEU, minimize reputational and entrepreneurial risks, and consistently strengthen mutual trust.

It should also be acknowledged that in a number of areas the strategic goals have not yet been achieved in full. This means that today we need to focus not only on discussing new initiatives, but also on the practical implementation of decisions already adopted, on accelerating conciliation procedures, and on increasing the effectiveness of the work of the EAEU institutions," Pashinyan noted.
