"Smart guy." Trump says he is satisfied with the head of the Pentagon
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is satisfied with the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.
"I think he's one of the best. I know what I'm talking about. Smart guy. Knows what he's doing, and the military respects him," the American president told the NBC News television channel.
According to NBC News, at least one of Trump's political allies has told him in recent weeks that Hegseth is professionally unfit to serve as secretary at a time when the United States is conducting combat operations.
As The Washington Post reported earlier, citing sources in the American administration, the U.S. president believes that Hegseth misled him regarding weapons stockpiles that were depleted during the war with Iran. Trump said earlier that those responsible for leaks to the press about an alleged shortage of ammunition in the United States are already being sought and could face prison terms. NBC News also reported that, because of Trump's criticism regarding the shortage of weapons, senior U.S. military officials and officials responsible for procurement will hold a "crisis meeting."
