Bessent allows conclusion of new agreement with Iran in coming days
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that a new ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran could be concluded as early as August 7 or 8.
The head of the American Treasury Department said this in an interview with the 12News television channel.
According to Bessent, the agreement could provide for a ceasefire lasting from 30 to 60 days, as well as the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The minister noted that Washington continues to exert pressure on Tehran in the military and economic spheres. In particular, he mentioned the American operation "Epic Fury" and the US Treasury initiative "Economic Fury".
Bessent also stated that in the future the Strait of Hormuz will no longer be able to function as before, since Iran used it as a tool of pressure. According to him, part of the energy flows may be redirected along alternative routes.
