Amy Carlon: Baku and Yerevan made concrete steps toward lasting peace a year after Washington summit
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Azerbaijan Amy Carlon stated that a year after the historic peace summit at the White House, Azerbaijan and Armenia demonstrated unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace and took concrete steps in that direction.
Carlon made the remarks in a video address published by the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan marking the anniversary of the Washington summit held on August 8, 2025.
The diplomat recalled that a year ago U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House. She noted that during the summit, in the presence of the leaders, an agreement was initialed that laid the foundation for sustainable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia after more than three decades of conflict.
"Since August 8, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the spirit of the White House summit and have taken decisive and concrete steps on the path to lasting peace," Carlon said.
She noted that over the past year regular exchanges between representatives of civil society of the two countries began, and the first signs of cross-border trade appeared, including regular purchases of Azerbaijani fuel by Armenia.
Carlon also highlighted the TRIPP (Trump Route) project, calling it one of the key elements of the August 8 agreement.
"This route will provide Azerbaijan with unimpeded access to Nakhchivan and will contribute to the integration and development of transport connectivity along the East-West axis, ensuring mutual economic benefits and prosperity for Azerbaijan and the entire region," she stated.
According to the diplomat, the TRIPP project has made significant progress over the past year, and the process will accelerate in the coming year.
Speaking about U.S.-Azerbaijan relations, Carlon noted that on August 8 Trump and Aliyev also signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at taking bilateral relations to a new level.
"This led to the signing of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Charter on Strategic Partnership," she said.
Carlon emphasized that after the signing of the Charter, the United States and Azerbaijan began its implementation, and over the past period mutual visits by senior government officials and private sector representatives have significantly intensified.
She also noted that in June the parties signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of critical minerals, held the first U.S.-Azerbaijan economic dialogue, and American companies concluded commercial and investment agreements worth billions of dollars.
"And this is only the beginning. There is still much ahead. President Trump has clearly outlined the U.S. commitment to peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus region, and the progress achieved over the past year shows what can be accomplished when we work together. I am confident that in the coming years our countries will jointly achieve many more important results," the diplomat added.
