US Senate approves government funding until December

The US Senate passed a funding package for federal agencies until December 11, preventing a partial government shutdown due to lack of budget (shutdown).

As a rule, the Senate or the House of Representatives sabotage the adoption of the budget until the beginning of the fiscal year (October 1) to obtain concessions. This time, the Senate approved funding almost two months before that and did so almost unanimously - 90 votes "for" with 6 "against".
As the agency explains, the Senate's decision will allow avoiding a shutdown ahead of the midterm elections in November. Over the past year, the federal government has twice faced unprecedentedly long periods of lack of funding.

Given this experience, senators from both parties may have decided not to irritate voters before important elections, the agency writes.
Among the concessions obtained by the opposition Democrats is the absence of clear guarantees of new funding for the border patrol service and the refusal to allocate $1 billion for the development of Navy ships of the "Trump class," which the White House sought. The Senate budget bill must be approved by the House of Representatives, which returns from summer recess on August 31. Approval of the bill in the lower house of Congress is not expected to face difficulties due to the Senate's near-unanimous approval and the approaching midterm elections.
