Demonstrators in Germany demand resignation of Merz government
A demonstration demanding the resignation of the government of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz began in the Saxon city of Plauen in eastern Germany.
The protest movement Projekt M1llion stated roughly 10 thousand participants, having mobilized supporters across the country, writes the DPA agency.
The protesters demand, among other things, the resignation of the federal government and the holding of early elections, a reduction in electricity and gas fees, a reform of public-law broadcasting, the immediate deportation of "all convicted illegal migrants who committed crimes". A number of organizations in response began actions in support of democracy and tolerance. Oberbürgermeister of the city Steffen Zenner previously called for peaceful protests and the prevention of provocations. Police have not yet provided official data on the number of participants in the actions.
