Medvedev: West will abandon Armenia when it ceases to be battering ram against Russia

The West will turn away from Armenia as soon as it ceases to be of interest to it as a "battering ram against Russia"; the EU and the US are not interested in the well-being of the citizens of this country, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, answering a question from RIA Novosti.

"The European Union and the US do not care at all about the well-being of the citizens of this country. As soon as Armenia ceases to be of interest to them as a battering ram against Russia, the Western weathervanes will instantly renege on all their promises, as if they had never existed at all," Medvedev said.
According to him, the EU and the US will abandon Armenia if it continues its course toward reunification with the West.

Medvedev noted that an economic break with Russia would cause a deep internal crisis in Armenia, "and perhaps something worse."
