Sergio Perez revealed what could be the key to success in Baku – PHOTO
Cadillac driver Sergio Perez shared his expectations for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, noting the features of the street circuit in Baku and the factors that could influence the outcome of the race.
According to the driver, in order to perform well in Baku it is first of all necessary to make it to the finish, since the track offers opportunities to those who are able to avoid mistakes.
«In Baku, first of all, you need to make it to the end. If you manage that, good opportunities always come up here. Secondly, on this track you need a lot of self-confidence», - S. Perez said at the FIA press conference in the capital of Azerbaijan.
The driver also drew attention to the wind, which, in his words, traditionally becomes one of the most serious factors during the race in Baku: «You have to be able to attack without making mistakes, because on this track, especially on race day, the wind picks up considerably. In recent years the wind has been a serious factor here».
At the same time, the Cadillac driver does not expect an easy weekend because of the characteristics of his car. S. Perez emphasized that the Baku track has many long straights, while one of the main shortcomings of the team's car at the moment is high aerodynamic drag: «There are a lot of straights here, and right now our car generates too much drag - this is one of our main weaknesses. That is why I don't expect miracles».
The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be the tenth Formula 1 round to be held on the street circuit in Baku. The first Formula 1 round took place in the capital of Azerbaijan in 2016 under the name of the European Grand Prix, and since 2017 the race has been held as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. In 2026, the race weekend in the capital of Azerbaijan will take place from September 24 to 26.
