President of Serbia hopes to sign agreement with Azerbaijan on gas power plant construction
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, expressed hope for signing an agreement with Azerbaijan on the construction of a gas power plant within a month, highlighting Baku's key role in ensuring Europe's energy security.
He made this statement in response to a question from the Balkan bureau of Report following a meeting of the National Security Council dedicated to the energy situation.
According to him, in this case, Azerbaijan's role in Europe's energy security will grow even further.
"Of course, there are friendly relations at a high level between Serbia and Azerbaijan, and we are on the verge of signing a major agreement on a gas power plant, which is of great importance for our country. We hope this will happen very soon—within a month," he stated.
The President emphasized that Serbia highly values the role of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev in energy matters. "His contribution is seen as stabilizing and extremely important," he stressed.
Vučić also noted that the implementation of the project will open a new stage in bilateral cooperation.
